Meet Monica

Monica was born to teenage parents, and lovingly raised by her grandparents.  Her family's roots were based in Hendersonville, North Carolina as far back as her great grandmother.  Monica spent many of her childhood Summers in Hendersonville, ultimately making it her home in 2000.

After having her first child at 21, Monica resolved she would not be a statistic and understood it was her role to provide the best life possible for her son.  With this resolve, she first graduated from Blue Ridge Community College, thanks to the Katherine Roper Scholarship.  Based on her academic performance she was able to obtain a full ride scholarship to the University of North Carolina in Asheville.

Monica's uncle, Jeter Wilds, a long-time beloved State Trooper, sparked Monica's interest in the legal system.  As a result, Monica applied and was accepted to the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University.  With her 5 year-old son and chocolate lab in tow, Monica moved to Buies Creek, North Carolina, and three years later walked across the stage with a Juris Doctorate degree.

In 2007, Monica was blessed to start her career in the Henderson County District Attorney's Office under the leadership of District Attorney, Jeff Hunt.  She worked as an Assistant District Attorney for the next two years before venturing into private practice. Since 2009, Monica successfully ran her own business, Gillett Law Office.  She practiced in many courtroom settings, including Family Court, Criminal Court, DSS Court and Juvenile Court.  She worked as a Guardian ad Litem, is a Certified Parenting Coordinator, and for the past six years has been a NC Board Certified Family Law Specialist.  Monica continues to use her real expertise to litigate in District 42 while being actively involved in the community and raising her 11 and 12 year old sons.

Monica is uniquely positioned to appreciate and respect the many different citizens that will come before her as a District Court Judge. She is ready to serve her community and sincerely believes that her history, experiences, hardships, successes, and dedication will enable her to fairly and justly serve in this capacity.

Monica is Real, Ready and Resolved to bring District 42 the leadership it so deserves.
